Mahesh Sukumar – Biography
Mahesh Sukumar, a resident of California, is a Transport Planner and Traffic Engineer
with over five years experience working within the field. He matriculated at Banaras
Hindu University in 1997 after ranking in the top 2% on the IEE exam. After receiving
a Merit Scholarship in both 1998 and 1999 for his outstanding performance in the Civil
Engineering Department, Mahesh graduated with honors from the University in 2001. He
then sought residence in the United States, and has lived there since.
Sukumar began his professional career as a Graduate Research Associate at Ohio State
University’s Civil Engineering Department. There, he was part of a team that helped
determine the effect of advanced video monitoring systems to detect lane changes in
traffic patterns. He also volunteered on several Transportation Planning projects and
helped address technical problems for various departments.
Soon after, Mahesh was employed by Omni-Means Engineers & Planners. Located
in Roseville, California, Omni-Means provides services for planning, design and
construction management during each phase of a project for both public and private
clients. Their solution-oriented approach to transportation is unparalleled within the
industry. Mahesh began at the company as a Traffic Engineer, and was quickly promoted
to a Transportation Planner in early 2007, a position which he retained until late 2009.
During his time at Omni-Means he was involved in several major projects that would
later have a positive impact on traffic.
Mahesh is also known for his volunteer efforts and charitable contributions. He has
donated clothes, food and electronics to the Salvation Army on a yearly basis and urges
others to do the same. While at Ohio State, Sukumar participated in several volunteer
projects designed to facilitate traffic flow and reduce costs. He remains active within his
community to this very day.
Sukumar belongs to an array of Professional Organizations, including the American
Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE).
In his spare time he participates in a variety of sports such as badminton, racquetball and
squash. He also loves outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, fishing and walking.
